DO YOU WANT SOFT COPY OR HARDCOPY?

BOOK, The dilemma of a country, dilemma of a country, dilemma of country, dilemma, country, country dilemma, dilemma in a country, country of dillemas

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Dilemmas of a country brings to fore the challenges that have bedevilled Nigeria from 1914 when the Northern and Southern Protectorates were merged.

The book reveals factors that have stunted the growth of Nigeria despite the abundance of resources available that can make the country great. One can but marvel why a country so endowed like Nigeria has consistently thrown up ‘leaders of circumstances’ since independence.

What makes this book unique are its expository and painstaking efforts to identify the source of the country’s problem and various reliable solutions to tame the monster called corruption.

The book is a good handout for political students, analysts, leaders and followers who desire to make a positive difference in the political sphere in Nigeria. Filled with intrigued facts, the book is an eye-opener to stop the blame game and start working towards a great country we desire.

In this book, Adebayo presents his intent to help redeem the state. The beauty is in the message as he traces the beginning of the crises, appraises it’s leaders of circumstances and throws light on the follies of its people. In providing the remedy, the book explains the urgency of the moment in the tone of the writer’s disappointment. That Adebayo took the direction of book writing in sharing his experience is sterling. It confirms his rising aspiration as a factor in the mission to unleash a future of hope. In this effort, I inscribe my support.

Edmund Obilo,
Renowned Journalist/Publisher.

What brought us to this crossroad?
At what point did we get it wrong?
Is there no way out of this wilderness?
How long shall we continue to produce leaders of circumstances?
Is this cup half filled or half emptied?

As contagious as yawning, so can mood be contagious! I get contacted by the anger and optimism of Dr Adebayo Faleke every time I read the book “The Dilemmas of a Country“. I recommend the book to all and sundry. It’s informative, educating and also entertaining! Until you read the book, you may not know how instrumental you are to the growth and development of this country.

A review of Adebayo Faleke’s book, The Dilemmas of a Country by Wale Ojo-Lanre.

DR Adebayo Faleke’s book, The Dilemmas of A Country, as the title implies, highlights the challenges facing Nigeria since amalgamation.

The 80-page book, having its foreword written by political analyst and broadcaster, Edmund Obilo, delves into the problems bedevilling Nigeria, as well as the solutions to bring the country out of the woods.

Obilo, in his forward, notes that “conscience matters in the ability of the state to triumph in the competition between the failures of the past and the planned failure of tomorrow.”

What brings about Faleke in writing the book is not only his exposition and experience as a broadcaster, with a speciality on social-commentary and agenda-monitoring, but also because of his hope that focusing only on certain initiatives will help in building a formable country.

…. This is what Albert Einstein meant when he said ‘the world will not be destroyed by those who do evil but by those who watch them without doing anything’.

……..If Gold rusts, what will iron do? If we could not find honesty and uprightness among our spiritual leaders, where else can we turn?

….. Is it not plausible that religion has mentally enslaved Africa people so much that we rarely think outside the box? Religion in Africa does not encourage creative or critical thinking.

Considering the fact that less religious countries like Japan, China, Sweden, Netherlands are well-developed whereas, highly religious countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Chad, Niger, Kenya are poor and underdeveloped despite all the prayers day and night; one would conclude that Africa people need wisdom more than they need prayer. No wonder the scripture says ‘wisdom is the principal thing, in all your getting, get wisdom’. If Africans could combine wisdom, hard-work, and religion towards the development of Africa, sky would be their limit.

Even though in Nigeria, my country, there are more churches and mosques than schools yet, the moral value of the people is not positively affected. Corruption, bribery, fraudulent acts, theft, rape, terrorism, kidnapping and all sorts of other social vices are constantly increasing by the day. We are highly religious yet, we are not upright. As a matter of fact, religion is one of the major causes of conflicts in Africa.
